nv role-play

Role-play is a powerful method of selecting, training and retaining the right staff. It is a remarkable tool in which any subject can be addressed in a risk free environment.

Whether for assessment, development, recruitment or training purposes, nothing can highlight problems or potential as clearly as practical exercise.

Role-play can be used for a considerable range of objectives – it’s remarkably flexible. Simply put, it can be of benefit in any situation where there is human interaction.

what makes nv role-plays different?

As specialists in this field, we believe that a vital ingredient of successful role-play is the use of carefully selected, professionally trained actors.

NV actors bring realism to what can otherwise be an artificial situation – they’re totally believable, which draws out authentic behaviour from participants and encourages significant input from observers.

It is also ingrained in our company culture to be thorough in our preparation and research, and our actors are no exception. They extensively research their roles to deliver the most convincing depiction of their characters and job specifications.

Only by using trained professionals can the character’s tone, demeanour and attitude be finely tuned according to your requirements.

Furthermore, our actors are friendly and impartial allowing participants to demonstrate and develop their skills with trust and with confidence.

nv feedback

Many of our clients ask us to deliver feedback after role-playing which can be extremely beneficial. At NV we don’t leave this to chance. We train our team on how to deliver high quality, impartial and detailed feedback, and our clients’ report that this aspect of our service is invaluable.

how to use role-play

You may already have a clear idea of how you would like to use our actors, but if not, here are some methods listed below. We are happy to work with your scripts and briefs, but if you need us to devise or write your material, we can.

briefed role-play

Actors improvise with participants in accordance to a specific brief. This method gives participants the opportunity to test and/or develop their skills on a human guinea pig. If required actors can also give feedback to assist an evaluation.

‘real’-play

Participants fill out a questionnaire about a forthcoming specific conversation that they may be nervous or uncertain about. With due confidentiality, and based on the information given, our actors then interpret the characteristics of the conversation and a ‘real’ play conversation takes place – with this method, life really can be a dress rehearsal.

scripted role-play

Actors deliver a tailored script which has a variety of outcomes. Whilst in role-play with a participant, the different scripts are revealed as and when the participant triggers them. The participant can thus be rewarded with information when they demonstrate the appropriate skills.

reflected role-play

After researching and mystery shopping your environment, our actors present a dramatic interpretation of how your workplace comes across to an outside eye. Actors can recreate the workplace ‘atmosphere’ and customer care standards etc in an engaging way. With due sensitivity, we are able to give you a fair and objective account which can inspire as well as inform.

forum theatre

Actors present a scenario specific to your project and issues. The observers are then given the opportunity to re-watch, but this time stop and change the action when they feel improvements can be made. The action can be rewound and replayed according to the comments. Feedback continues until the scenario becomes a demonstration of ‘best practice’.

sketches

Sketches can be a fun and punchy way to demonstrate a point or bring a theory to life. Always entertaining and often humorous they can be the ideal injection in a presentation or workshop.
